Having joined the cyber friends forums, Myspace, just recently, we`ve noticed so much great talent out there it`s almost unbeliveable! its a full network of labels, artists & bands mixing with their fans! One such band has caught oiur eye and thats, Eurovox, a new 3 piece Mod pop band from the UK.
Eurovox evolved in 2004 when frontman Mat Hammond along with Steve Flores, joined producer, Robbie Watson primed with some tunes that are now firmly established onto their debut release, "This Is ....Eurovox", a 12 track CD album bursting at the seams with Mod Power Pop with the energy level at top notch reminiscent of the days of The Jam or The Chords in full flight! and to me, it`s the energy burst this scene needed too!
First track on is,"Billy No Mates", a fast paced Mod popper with shades of early Jam/Weller, fantastic opener track, "The Story Of A Boy & A Girl", continues the vibe, "Love On The Airwaves", apply named track, we love to play this on our airwaves! flowing nicely into, "She Knows Everything", is this the Direct Hits or Time UK? superb track, "La La La", got one hell of an infectious chorus, watch out you`ll be singing this to yourself shortly, "Happy Hour", no not a cover of the Housemartins hit, this is a 100 times better, "The World Won't Wait", mellowed out man! flowing spaced out like the Pop Sike of the late 60`s another top track, "Tonight, Tonight", bursts kicking & screaming back into the Mod Revival era, "A Night On The Tiles", a lyrical masterpiece, just gotta be my favourite track on the album, "In For A Penny", Mr Hammond is in top form again sounding like a young angst fueled Ed Ball flowing into the Billy Bragg/60`s influenced, "Ships", the last track, "Touch The Sky", is a big meaty chunk of modern Mod pop ending 40 minutes of pure quality Mod ear candy.
Borrowing a phrase from the lads themselves, "With the record completed, and already receiving critical acclaim from both the public and press alike, Eurovox is currently engaged in serving up the fruits of their labor to a hungry public................... Ladies and Gentlemen, dinner is served!", well I just have to agree on that score, it`s the quality that counts!
