If you were thinking about seeing Quadrophenia at the theatre but thought "how is that going to work?", then let me put your mind at rest.
Don`t go in thinking of Phil Daniels, Lesley Ash or Sting, you need to cast your mind back to Pete Townsend`s original concept of the album.
The story takes you inside the mind of a tormented young mod whos 4 characters are in constant battle with each other.
The 4 Jimmys are played by 4 talented young actors all of whom you have great empathy for as they struggle with their extreme egos of `the romantic, the hypocrite, the lunatic and the tough guy.
The band fills your head and soul with all the songs and you will find yourself quietly singing along and tapping your feet. A couple of extra Who songs are included which werent on the original album, but fit perfect into the structure of the perfomance.
For me, it brought back memories of the first time I brought the album and rushed home to listen to it. Earphones on and the volme up full blast while reading the story on the inside covers - Happy Days !
I hope it gives you that buzz too - remember to join at the end with........... We are the mods, we are the mods, we are, we are ,we are the mods, you know you want to !!!!
Playing at theatres up and down the country till October, check your local theatre for more details.
see it in birmingham thought it was awsome great singers an musicians well put together show you have got to see it as a stage show about the album an not the film (as like my wife and family got bit confused) highly recommend to any quadrophenia or mod or music fans
we went to see it last night - dreadful. The 'story' was somewhere between non-existant and confusing. There were '4 Jimmys' constantly wrestling with each other and I barely recognised any of the songs apart from 5.15 (that resembled a Pans People rendition), Love reign o-er me and Bellboy. Who was the guy in the Union Jack coats meant to be portraying. Obviously some people appeared to like it....but the majority of the audience looked baffled on the way out.
we went to see it on the opening night in Plymouth, what an event, loads of people dressed for the occasion, and an absoute amazing show, the music was fantastic, If anyone is thinking about going, dont think anymore, just do it.
Its meant to be a secret but my son has bought me 2 tickets to see it in sunlin for Fathers Day! Can't wait.....I hope the missus joins into the spirit by dressing up too.
